Description

These videos were made in 2010, as part of Machik's Summer Enrichment Program (SEP), a one-of-a-kind summer camp that promotes intercultural exchange and learning among Tibetan, Chinese and global youth. The students, age 12-20, participate in language, health, and social entrepreneurship classes, as well as also engage in a wide variety of activities, including theater, photography, music, and participatory video.

Drolma's Wish depicts a father's decision about sending his daughter to school. Thonmi Sambhota tells the story of the creator of the Tibetan alphabet and written language. Both films were written, directed, shot and edited by the students over the course of one week, with guidance from Cecil Matthai Esquivel-Obregón.

Made possible with the collaboration of Machik and generous support from The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation and Columbia University School of the Arts: Film Division
